For the first time in 200 years, France will cancel admission to the most prestigious theater school

The Higher National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts (CNSAD) – France's most prestigious theater school – will cancel recruitment in 2021 due to COVID-19 and the health crisis. This event took place for the first time in the 200-year history of the institution, RIA Novosti reports.

“Apparently, this is the first time in the history of the institute founded in 1786, one of the few that organizes a competition every year,” says a representative of the school.

It is noted that each course has approximately 30 students, which includes 15 boys and 15 girls, as well as several foreign interns who are invited annually. In 2020, the school managed to hold a traditional competition in three rounds – shortly before and immediately after the spring-summer quarantine.

The administration of the school noted that, in agreement with the Ministry of Culture, it was decided to cancel the recruitment.

“The school understands very well what emotional stake is at stake for applicants, but it will be almost impossible to hold the competition under normal conditions,” emphasizes the representative of the Higher National Conservatory of Dramatic Art.

Such famous actors as Gerard Philippe, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Isabelle Huppert and others graduated from this school.

Earlier it became known that Moscow State University and MGIMO will switch to a distance learning format. It is noted that the decision was made due to the alarming situation with COVID-19.
