Football season in Lower Austria officially canceled

Lockdown

The fear has been around for a long time, now it is fixed: The Lower Austrian Football Association has ended the current season in the amateur sector.

It is official: In the adult amateur area, the 2020/21 season will no longer be completed. Due to the renewed extension of the lockdown, the association has drawn a line and ended the championship. There are therefore no promoters and relegators.

For the thousands of lower house kickers, this means that competitive games will take place again in late summer at the earliest. The government has been banning amateur football for half a year, and the situation is now dramatic for many clubs.

The association had already decided in March that if complete training with physical contact is not possible by April 18, 2021, the current championship must be canceled. That was officially confirmed on Tuesday.

“In March, the NÖFV board made this decision with great foresight. In our currently unpredictable time, we wanted to give the clubs, coaches and all active people the greatest possible planning security, ”explains NÖFV President Johann Gartner. “Due to the decision made by the politically responsible, no training is possible until April 18th. This restriction is therefore synonymous with the premature end of the season for all combat teams for women and men as well as for the reserve competitions. “

In the youth field, on the other hand, it might ideally still be possible to play games. The association is monitoring developments. It is not yet certain whether the associations in Vienna and Burgenland will follow suit. But the probability is great.
