The Super League is becoming more and more of a fiasco for the twelve breakaway clubs. Two of the driving forces are now being replaced.
With Manchester City, the first club officially left the round of twelve clubs on Tuesday evening. Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona will follow if the league does not split up beforehand.
After fierce fan protests, Manchester United managing director Ed Woodward announced his resignation on Tuesday evening. The 49-year-old will leave the club at the end of the year.
Woodward left the reasons open, but it is obvious that the managing director could no longer be held after the Super League fiasco. Instead, Woodward praised his 16-year successes at United, but made no mention of the billion-dollar league either.
The “Red Devils” owner family Glazer had been one of the driving forces behind the Super League. But the clubs had underestimated the strength of their fans.
Andrea Agnelli, one of the Super League vice-presidents, is said to have been going on his job as Juve boss since Tuesday evening, according to media reports. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
