FMBA told about the effect of the drug against coronavirus “MIR-19”
The Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) told in what cases the drug for the coronavirus “MIR-19” can be used, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the head of the department of translational medicine and innovative technologies of the FMBA, Daria Kryuchko, the drug may be suitable for early post-exposure prophylaxis. Such conclusions are made on the basis of the mechanism of action of the drug and the preliminary results obtained.
The specialist emphasized that additional clinical research is needed to accurately answer this question.
Let us remind that the research center “Institute of Immunology” of FMBA received a patent for the drug “MIR-19” in April of this year. Its name stands for small interfering RNA. The drug is expected to inhibit the replication of the virus and prevent the most severe forms of COVID-19.
Earlier, FMBA said that the drug showed maximum effectiveness in the first two to three days after infection.
