Georgian doctors recorded the country's first death from COVID-19 of a patient who received a full course of vaccination against the disease. This is reported by TASS with reference to the country's Minister of Health Yekaterina Tikaradze.
Now in the republic, immunization of citizens from coronavirus is carried out with the drugs AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Sinovac Biotech. According to Tikaradze, although the fact of the patient's death is regrettable, it should not become a reason for panic. “There are isolated cases like this in the world,” she said.
At the same time, Tikaradze refused to name the vaccine with which the deceased was vaccinated. The minister called the issue “patient's personal information” and noted that he suffered from many chronic diseases that could not be cured.
In early August, Georgia ranked second in the world in terms of the spread of coronavirus. The authorities attributed this fact to the spread of the “delta” variant of the infection, which is characterized by greater infectiousness. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 515 thousand cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the country, more than six thousand people have died.
