First case of wild mink infection with coronavirus detected in US

The National Veterinary Laboratory of the United States Department of Agriculture recorded the first case of COVID-19 infection in an animal living in the wild, RIA Novosti reported.

It is clarified that we are talking about a wild mink that lives in Utah. The infection was identified during an epidemiological study in the vicinity of the farm, where cases of coronavirus were previously reported.

It is noted that information about the infection was sent to the World Organization for Animal Health. The experts added that there is no evidence yet that COVID-19 is circulating in wild populations living near mink farms in which cases of the disease have been identified.

COVID-19 has been repeatedly detected in mink farms. Earlier it was reported that in the state of Utah, almost eight thousand mink died, presumably infected with the coronavirus. In addition, cases of mink infection were recorded in the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Italy and Sweden.
