Airstrikes and shelling of Kyiv, carried out by Russian troops, lead to air pollution in the city.

This was stated today during his video message by the mayor of the capital of Ukraine Vitali Klitschko.

He called on the residents of Kyiv to close the windows. In addition, according to Klitschko, it is advisable to wear FFP2 respirators on the street.

– Due to fires after air strikes in the capital and the region, air pollution is observed. Therefore, please do not open the windows, please. And when you go outside, protect your lungs by wearing even a medical respirator type FFP2, — noted Klitschko.

He also commented on the night attack of the enemy on the Podolsky district of the capital. Klitschko said that during the night, rescuers extinguished a fire provoked by shelling.

The mayor of the capital specified that as a result of an enemy attack, a shopping center burned down, 6 residential buildings were damaged (three of them are now uninhabitable). Eight people were killed.

In addition, the premises of two schools and two kindergartens were damaged.

During the appeal, Klitschko also urged the people of Kiev not to remove the checkpoints and the movement of Ukrainian troops.

– I want to appeal to the people of Kiev: do not shoot or post videos of the movement of military equipment, do not film roadblocks, guarding strategic facilities. Don't help the enemy! – Klitschko emphasized.

In particular, at night, on the left bank of the capital, the content of the following pollutants was recorded: suspended particles (dust) – 319 µg/m3 (maximum allowable concentration, MPC – 500); nitric oxide – 1.3 µg/m3 (permissible concentration – 400); nitrogen dioxide – 20.2 µg/m3 (permissible concentration – 200); sulfur dioxide – 22.7 µg/m3 (MPC – 500); carbon monoxide – 490 µg/m3 (MPC – 5,000); ozone – 74.8 µg/m3 (MPC – 160); formaldehyde – 8.7 µg/m3 (MPC – 35); hydrogen sulfide – 2.2 µg/m3 (MAC – 8).

On the right bank of Kyiv, the content of pollutants in the air was: suspended particles (dust) – 804 µg/m3 (maximum allowable concentration – 500); nitric oxide – 1.5 µg/m3 (MPC – 400); nitrogen dioxide – 22.7 µg/m3 (MPC – 200); sulfur dioxide – 16.0 µg/m3 (MPC – 500); carbon monoxide – 1092 µg/m3 (MPC – 5000); ozone – 91.8 mcg/m3 (permissible concentration – 160).

Until the situation in the city is completely improved, the people of Kiev are advised not to open windows, and also not to go out unnecessarily.

It should be noted that on the morning of March 19 Kyiv was covered by smog. The air smelled of smoke and visibility was poor. Subsequently, the danger passed, and the air condition in the capital returned to normal.
