Smoke at Romania's only nuclear power plant
On Wednesday, June 25, a fire alarm went off at the first unit of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in Romania. The power plant was de-energized for the duration of the cleanup. Rescuers were dispatched to the scene to eliminate the smoke.
The source of the smoke was the technical room of the administrative building, where computers, voltage stabilizers and other electrical equipment are located. As of 16:00, the source of the smoke was found and eliminated.
The plant's operator, Nuclearelectrica, said the incident did not pose a radiation hazard. There were no casualties and no damage to the environment. Both power units are operating in standard mode.
Currently, specialists are investigating the cause of the problem and carrying out the necessary repairs.
Let us recall that in July 2024, the media reported that three current transformers allegedly burned out over three days at the South Ukrainian NPP, which is why one of the reactors was allegedly disconnected from the grid. Several Ukrenergo lines were also allegedly damaged. However, these reports were not true.
