The Finnish Parliament has received a civil initiative for the country's accession to NATO for consideration. About it writes RIA Novosti.
According to the agency, as of 21:00 (Moscow time) on February 26, the petition gained 50,570 signatures. According to the document, membership in the North Atlantic Alliance will legally strengthen the status quo and significantly increase Finland's ability to defend itself against external threats.
Earlier it became known that NATO would take “preventive and proportionate” measures to strengthen the defense of the alliance because of Russia's military operation in the Donbass. The alliance called the actions of the Russian side a threat to Euro-Atlantic security.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to launch a special military operation to protect the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR).
