Finland warned about restriction of checkpoint operation on border with Russia
The Finnish authorities decided to restrict passenger traffic through the checkpoints on the Finnish-Russian border in Niirala, Nuyamaa and Vaalimaa against the background of an epidemiological situation, RIA Novosti reports, citing the country's Interior Ministry.
It is known that the opening hours of the three most popular checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation will be limited from Friday, February 19. This measure will not affect freight traffic and persons who have an urgent and necessary reason for crossing the border outside of working hours.
From next week, the work of the checkpoints on the Finnish-Norwegian border and on the Finnish-Swedish border will also be limited. The government thus hopes to prevent the spread of new variants of COVID-19 on the territory of the state.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization announced a decrease in the incidence of coronavirus in European countries, in addition, the number of deaths from infection is also decreasing. The WHO previously assured that the spread of new strains of COVID would not provoke a new wave of a pandemic.
