Russia's invasion of Ukraine has forced the country to reconsider its defense potential.
Finland is increasing this military potential and is actively cooperating with partners, but does not believe that its actions pose a threat to any countries.
This was stated by the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces Janne Jaakkola at the opening ceremony of the national defence courses, reports Yle.
He noted that Finland is sending a transparent message about the need to strengthen its security.
“We are concerned about security. We cannot save on this,” Jaakkola said.
In addition, he noted that strengthening defence capabilities and cooperation with partners do not pose a threat to any country.
“We are preparing to defend our country as before,” he stressed Jaakkola.
The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces said that the Finns were shocked by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
“The Finns did not need to be woken up. “We joined NATO at the most opportune moment,” he added.
Jaakkola said that Russia currently has few or no deterrents to using its armed forces. He also said that it cannot be ruled out that the war could expand to Europe.
Recall that it was previously reported that Russia systematically jams GPS signals in Finland.
In addition, we previously reported that a Russian ship entered Finnish territorial waters, the crew ignored border guard signals.
