Finland shares a 1,340 km border with Russia, the longest in Europe.

Finland has accused Russian border guards of helping illegal migrants from the Middle East enter the country.

BBC News writes about this.

Finnish officials say migrants arrive in cars before crossing in small groups on bicycles, taking advantage of an agreement that allows crossing on two-wheelers. Last week Finland banned cycling.

Let us add that Finland has a common border with Russia with a length of 1340 km, the longest in Europe.

Matti Pitkanitti, a colonel at the Finnish Border Guard, said the migrants included citizens of countries such as Iraq, Yemen and Syria who arrived in Russia legally but did not have permission to enter EU member Finland.

Most illegal crossings were observed around the border crossings in Nuijamaa and Vaalimaa in south-eastern Finland.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo accused the Russian authorities of facilitating illegal border crossings. According to him, the small number of spotted illegal immigrants remains under control.

“It is clear that these people are being assisted and are also being escorted or transported to the border by border guards,” Orpo said.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs assured that the country's government is preparing to strengthen security at the border.

Let us remind you that it was previously reported that Finland has canceled border crossings on bicycles.
