In Kharkov, they are looking for vandals who poured red paint over a memorial sign to UPA soldiers in the Youth Park.

The incident took place on the morning of January 11th. A 45-year-old Kharkiv resident turned to the police, who was the first to see what happened to the recently restored monument.

– Information about the event is registered in the Unified Registration of Applications and Messages. The review is ongoing, the report said.

Photos of the damaged memorial sign to the soldiers of the UPA appeared in social networks. On the same day, caring Kharkiv residents washed off the paint from the monument on their own.

Also in social networks, they note that the territory of the park is under the supervision of the Kharkivzelenstroy security department around the clock, and the Youth Park itself is located one and a half hundred meters from the police station.

“The UPA monument is under the control of the Kharkiv public, a corresponding application has been filed with law enforcement agencies, the criminals are being searched,” one of the local Facebook communities noted.

A memorial sign to the soldiers of the UPA in Kharkov was opened on the second month of Ukrainian independence – in October 1991.

For more than 30 years, the monument has repeatedly suffered as a result of the actions of vandals: it was smashed with hammers, fired at with pistols, they tried to destroy it with explosives and plundered composite elements.

The restoration of the memorial sign was carried out in the second half of last year. The official opening of the restored monument to UPA soldiers took place on December 25, 2021.
