Figure skater Valieva suspected of doping was left without a medal in singles

At the Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing, the women's figure skating tournament ended with a free program.

The main contender for the top-class medal was ROC representative Kamila Valieva, suspected of doping. However, the 15-year-old athlete found herself off the podium in Beijing. Valieva was in the lead after the short program, but completely flunked the free program, falling twice during the rental.

Valieva, in order to guarantee herself a medal, it was enough to score 151 points, but she did not succeed – 141.93 points. As a result, the athlete became the fourth in the individual women's figure skating.

The victory in this discipline was won by another figure skater from the ROC Anna Shcherbakova, who beat her compatriot Alexandra Trusova. Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamoto won bronze.

Thus, if Valieva is removed in the future, this will not affect the medals of the 2022 Olympic Games in women's skating.

Valieva's doping became known shortly after the team figure skating tournament. It was won by the ROC team, but the IOC and organizers of the Games delayed the medal ceremony.

After that, the question arose of removing the athlete from the competition, but by decision of the CAS she was still allowed to participate in the tournament. This decision was explained by the age of the athlete: she is not yet 16 years old, so officially she cannot be accused of violating anti-doping rules.
