Russia at the Zapad-2021 exercises for the first time used combat robots in the same order as people. We are talking about “Uran-9” and “Nerekhta” – these are reconnaissance and fire support robots.
During the exercise “Uran-9” fought alongside people and destroyed manpower and armored vehicles of a conventional enemy with fire from missile systems and infantry rocket flamethrowers. They also covered the motorized rifle units during the change of positions.
Fighting robots “Nerekhta” were engaged in reconnaissance and fire support of units. They are armed with a 12.7 mm Kord machine gun and a 20 mm AG-30M grenade launcher. The robots can both adjust fire and deliver ammunition with equipment, the Defense Ministry told KP.
The strategic exercises Zapad-2021, jointly with Belarus, are held from 10 to 16 September and will involve nine training grounds in Russia and five in the union republic. The main stage of the exercise takes place on September 13 at the Mulino training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to its characteristics, the test site allows conducting interspecific and joint exercises using all types of small arms, weapons of combat vehicles, artillery systems, air defense systems, aircraft weapons, including operational-tactical missiles of the Iskander-M complex.
