The head of the Slovak government believes that the “conflict” cannot be resolved by providing weapons to the Ukrainian army.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation a “frozen conflict.” According to him, this “conflict” cannot be resolved by providing weapons to the Ukrainian army.

The head of the Slovak government made this statement on Friday, November 24, during a meeting in Prague with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Peter Fiala, Associated Press reports.

Robert Fico, who returned to the post of prime minister after his party's victory in the parliamentary elections in Slovakia, said that he would like the Russian and Ukrainian sides to sit down at the negotiating table. However, he did not say how to achieve this.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, which remains a strong supporter of Ukraine and provides our state with heavy weapons, noted that he and his Slovak counterpart have “different views on some issues.”

Fico noted that he respects the position of the Czech Republic and confirmed that Slovakia is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

He said he saw no reason to travel to Kyiv, but said he would talk by phone with his Ukrainian counterpart Denis Shmygal about what the country needs ahead of the coming winter.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Slovakia has provided weapons to protect against aggression and opened its borders to refugees fleeing the war.

In addition to stopping arms supplies, Fico also opposes EU sanctions against Russia and wants to block Ukraine's entry into NATO.

Let us recall that the previously appointed Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico told the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen that his government would not support Ukraine with military assistance.
