Fico called Scholz on the phone and complained about Zelensky

A Slovak politician again spoke about the harm to the European Union due to the cancellation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine.

On Friday, January 17, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and complained about the decision of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe.

The Slovak Prime Minister announced this in his message on Facebook.

The Slovak politician, who takes an openly pro-Russian position, convinced the German Chancellor in a conversation that the lack of gas transit from Russia not only harms Slovakia, but also damages the European Union.

“If President Zelensky's decision does not change, Slovakia will begin retaliatory measures,” Fico threatened again.

The Slovak Prime Minister also notified Olaf Scholz of his desire to meet with Zelensky at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday, January 21. However, according to him, the Ukrainian president did not respond to this invitation, but invited him to Kyiv.

At the same time, Fico did not explain why he refused to go to the Ukrainian capital. Instead, he criticized the visit to Kyiv of representatives of the Slovak opposition, who, according to him, “blindly and uncritically stand on the Ukrainian side and prefer Ukrainian interests to Slovak ones.”

In his message, the Prime Minister of Slovakia once again frightened his compatriots by saying that in the event of a change of power, the opposition will support Ukraine's membership in NATO, and this allegedly necessarily means “the presence of Slovak soldiers on the territory of Ukraine as part of the Western armed forces directed against Russia.”

Recall that on Friday, January 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Kiev with a delegation of the opposition party “Progressive Slovakia” headed by its leader Michal Šimečko.
