Japanese scientists have discovered an unknown virus that causes acute fever and a decrease in the level of white blood cells and platelets in the blood. This is reported by News.ru with reference to the journal Nature Communications.
Scientists have identified the virus as a result of monitoring patients with an unknown disease from 2014 to 2020. At the University of Hokkaido, using genetic analysis, it was established that the disease is caused by an unknown pathogen, which belongs to the genus Orthonairovirus.
Researchers suggest that the pathogen is a relative of the Crimean Crimean hemorrhagic fever virus, as well as the Tamdi and Sulin viruses found in Uzbekistan and Romania.
The duration of treatment for an unknown disease is about two weeks. During the observation period, no deaths were recorded.
Earlier, the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergencies (VNII GOChS) warned that mosquitoes could bring West Nile fever to the southern regions of Russia.
