“Fell into a Russian trap”: Germany accuses ex-British Defense Minister Wallace

Ambassador Germany to Great Britain Miguel Berger accused the former British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace that he “fell into a Russian trap” by criticizing the leaked information about a telephone conversation between Luftwaffe officers.

Politico writes about this.

According to the publication, Ben Wallace previously accused Germany of leaking information, saying that the country “is quite heavily infiltrated by Russian intelligence, so this simply demonstrates that they are neither safe nor reliable.”

In response, the German ambassador called Wallace's comments “extremely unhelpful.” According to him, this is exactly what Russia wants by publishing the telephone conversation.

“In the end, this was a very professional conversation about the use of long-range missiles. But we must be careful not to fall into the Russian trap, which is creating division, and unfortunately, some people have fallen into this trap,” said Miguel Berger.

The German ambassador to the UK also said there was no need for the German government to apologize, and that preliminary results from an investigation into the cause of the leak showed it was due to an “individual error” by one of the officers.

Recall that Russian propaganda media published a conversation between high-ranking German officers, where they discuss the possibility of transferring long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The German Ministry of Defense recognized the conversation as authentic and calls the leak Putin’s information war. And he hopes that the Russians did not listen to other conversations of the German military.
