Famous Venetian canals dry up due to low tides
In Venice, some water bodies have become shallow. Because of the low tide, the water level in the famous canals dropped by 48 – 55 centimeters, while some of them dried up altogether, Interfax reports.
As noted, until recently, the city suffered from high tides. Piazza San Marco was flooded, shops were counting material damage. Another attack is currently being observed in Venice. The few tourists who come to the Italian city cannot ride gondolas.
Local residents also have difficulty moving around the city. Many in Venice use boats as their primary means of transport. Boats run along the Grand Canal, but it has also become shallower.
Recall that three years ago in Venice, the water level in the canals dropped by 66 centimeters, and 13 years ago – as much as 83 centimeters.
