Historian and professor at St. Petersburg State University (St. Petersburg State University) Vladimir Yarantsev died at the age of 71 in a fire in his own apartment. Reported by KP.RU.
Rescuers noted that the apartment of the famous Russian historian was littered. Earlier, there were reports that Yarantsev and his wife were seriously ill, needed money for food and medicine, and were also forced to stay in bed.
Yarantsev's wife was rescued from the apartment; she was hospitalized in serious condition with burns and acute smoke poisoning.
Yarantsev is the author and editor of the encyclopedia Three Centuries of St. Petersburg. In recent years, he has guided tours of St. Petersburg, but the historian's health deteriorated after the COVID-19 pandemic and a broken leg.
