An accident occurred during the play ” Romeo and Juliet ” in Hungary.
Famous Hungarian actors Julia Szasz, who played Juliet, and Lajos Otto Horvath, who played her father Capulet, fell from the balcony. Luckily, they landed on a platform located behind the scenes.
After the fall, the actors were urgently hospitalized. They were found to have serious injuries and required surgery. Currently, they are in a serious but stable condition, says the “Snidanku z 1+1”.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway. After the accident, the director of the National Theater, Attila Vednyansky, offered to resign, but the Hungarian Minister of Culture, János Csák, rejected the offer. He is awaiting the conclusion of the investigation before making a decision regarding Vednyansky.
According to the BBC, Vednyansky served as director of the National Theater for 10 years and is a close ally of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
His appointment was due to end in 2023, but earlier this year it was extended for a further five years until 2028.
Chuck and Vednyansky had already visited the actors in the hospital and later the theater director said that the artists’ condition was improving.
Let us note that this month Julia Sas was supposed to play in the National Theater's performances “John the Valiant” and “Woyzeck”. The actress also played in many famous Hungarian films.
Lajos Otto Horvath first achieved success in the early 2000s as an actor and is known for his participation in Hungarian films and television shows.
