Famine is approaching for different countries: Zelensky on the consequences of the war in Ukraine

by alex

Famine in different countries of the world will be one of the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing the Italian Parliament.

He explained that Ukraine has always been one of the largest food exporters. But now, when the sowing campaign is about to begin in Ukraine, Ukrainian farmers in some regions cannot go out into the fields.

– The consequences of this war are already being felt in many countries of the world, not only in Europe. The most terrible will be the famine that is approaching for different countries. Ukraine has always been one of the largest food exporters. But how can we sow under the blow of Russian artillery? How can we sow when the enemy deliberately mines the fields? Destroy bases with fuel. We don't know what kind of crop we'll have or if we'll be able to export when our ports are blocked and mined, — he stressed.

Vladimir Zelensky clarified that it was a disruption in the supply of corn, sunflower oil and other goods vital for Ukrainian neighbors across the sea. The President added that prices are already rising.

At the same time, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Roman Leshchenko, said earlier that the situation with Ukraine's food supply remains under control.

He explained that wheat is in stock for two years, sunflower oil for five years, corn for one and a half years.
