A family in China paid a fine for “extra” children: Zhang Rongrong and her husband violated the law, according to which citizens of the country can have no more than two children. Writes about this South China Morning Post.
The couple had seven children to get the “perfect number”. The couple has already paid over 1 million yuan in fines (US $ 155,000). The SCMP notes that without this payment, the children – five boys and two girls – would not have received identity documents.
Zhang runs a garment factory, jewelry company and beauty treatment business in Guangdong province in southern China. Despite the fact that many businesswomen in China sometimes do not have children at all, Zhang did her own thing: she hopes that she will never be left alone in a large family. “When my husband leaves somewhere and the older children leave to study, I still have other children … When I get old, they will be able to visit me,” the woman said.
From 1979 to 2015, the Chinese authorities carried out a demographic policy of “one family – one child.” Since the beginning of 2016, the citizens of the country have been allowed to have two children. Since the 1970s, Beijing has been legally limiting family size, as the authorities see huge population growth as a problem, overloading the country's land, water and energy resources.
