The Iranian government has decided to pay compensation in the amount of 150 thousand dollars to the families of those killed in the crash of a Ukrainian Boeing, shot down in January 2020 near Tehran. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, December 30. The IRNA news agency writes about this.

The funds will be paid to the relatives of the victims, regardless of race or nationality. The country's vice president for legal affairs, Laya Jonesy, said the money will not ease the pain of families who have lost their loved ones in the disaster, but is a tribute to human rights.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced Kiev's readiness to sue Iran over the downed liner. According to Kuleba, Tehran did not fulfill these promises, in particular, did not provide a technical report on the disaster. He added that any patience has a limit, so Kiev can move to the trial phase if it realizes that all possibilities to resolve this issue have been exhausted.

The Boeing 737 of Ukraine International Airlines took off from Tehran to Kiev on January 8 and was shot down immediately after takeoff. All 167 passengers and nine crew members were killed: citizens of Ukraine, Iran, Canada and other countries. Iran admitted that the plane was shot down by the military by mistake.
