Mark Zuckerberg decided to create a special commission on his social network that will advise Facebook on its actions during political campaigns in different countries. First of all, this concerns the election of heads of state and the most important internal political processes.
Thus, Facebook wants to move away from the notoriety of the social network, which biasedly evaluates the political agenda in a particular country and interferes with current processes. According to two sources from the social network itself, Zuckerberg does not want to be seen as the only person making decisions related to political content.
The commission will advise on the upcoming elections and help Facebook navigate political advertising and disinformation issues. Nathaniel Persili, a law professor at Stanford University, noted, “There is a perception that Facebook participates in elections in other countries and influences them through its platform. Any decisions that Facebook makes have global implications. “
Presumably, the commission will be composed of political scientists, experts from the legal industry and other academics.
