The social network Facebook published a report according to which most of the accounts that the social network deletes because of suspicions about their authenticity were registered in Russia and Iran, Bloomberg reports.
So, according to the report, Facebook has deleted 50 groups of accounts from Russia and Iran since 2017 for actions that contradict company policy. They added that nine of these profiles were removed from the United States.
The report notes that US users have been targeted by at least 28 campaigns since 2017 to influence them. Ukraine became the second country in terms of the number of registered attacks – 11 networks were “targeted” at it.
“One of the consequences [of Facebook's actions] is that attackers no longer receive much coverage and attention,” said Nathaniel Gleicher, head of cybersecurity at Facebook.
Last September, Facebook removed three groups of “Russian” accounts from social media that allegedly violated the social media’s policy on foreign interference. “We removed three separate networks that violated our policy against foreign or government interference. These networks are of Russian origin, ”the company said in a statement.
Facebook and Twitter also removed Russia-related pages. Social networks, citing FBI data, explained that the deleted accounts were linked to the Russian Internet Research Agency.
