Facebook accused of distributing hateful content

by alex

Former Facebook manager Frances Haugen said the social network is deliberately distributing hate content. An ex-employee of an American company revealed the details in an interview with CBS.

According to Haugen, Facebook is tricking users about progress in fighting hate, violence and misinformation. The ex-manager noted that the social network deliberately distributes a huge number of publications that cause such strong emotions as anger and hatred, as they attract and retain users, make them spend more time on the site, which ultimately leads to an increase in the company's profits.

Haugen said that while working at Facebook, she constantly observed a conflict of interest between what is good for society and what is good for the company itself. “And each time Facebook chose the most profitable solution for its own interests, in particular, to make more money,” she said.

It is noted that Haugen has worked for the company since 2019 and at the same time began to secretly copy pages of internal investigations. In May 2021, she quit Facebook and in September filed anonymous complaints with federal law enforcement against the company, accusing it of trying to cash in on users. Based on her data, The Wall Street Journal began publishing incriminating articles. One of them said that the social network was developing ideas for attracting children to social networks.
