F-16 fighter jets will be handed over to the Ukrainian Air Force after the necessary conditions are met.

This was stated by Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte during a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, 20 August, specifying that the deliveries will include aircraft that, in addition to his country, will be provided by Denmark.

He recalled that in May of this year, the Netherlands announced its readiness to train Ukrainian pilots on the F-16, but at the same time stressed

“Training requires the delivery of aircraft. Today we can announce that the Netherlands and Denmark are committed to transferring F-16 aircraft to Ukraine when the conditions for such a transfer are met,” — said Rutte.

He also noted that the training of Ukrainian pilots has already begun, but the full training process will continue for many more months before the F-16 fighters can fully enter into service.

Mark Rutte called the supply of fighter jets “the next and long-term step in supporting Ukraine.”
