The organization of the collective security treaty refrains from military intervention in the armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

On Tuesday, September 13, an extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was held via videoconference due to a new aggravation on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

A message about this meeting appeared on the official website of the CSTO on the night of Wednesday, September 14.

The participants of this online meeting were the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadir Japarov, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda. The reasons for the absence of a representative of another CSTO member country, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, are not reported.

“The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia informed the meeting participants about the situation that has developed in certain areas on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, where, starting from midnight on September 13, 2022, there were military clashes with the use of heavy weapons and UAVs, as a result of which there were dead and wounded. The meeting participants expressed their condolences to the Armenian side,” the message says.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached on sending a CSTO mission to Armenia, headed by Secretary General of this organization Stanislav Zas, with the participation of the head of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov and representatives of the CSTO member states. The mission should assess the situation and prepare a report, which will be considered at the next session of the Collective Security Council, tentatively this fall.

Azerbaijani Telegram channels report that earlier information appeared on the CSTO website about sending a contingent to Armenia troops of Russia and Belarus, but she quickly disappeared. However, readers managed to take a screenshot of this message.
