Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor is causing a stir again. After his broken bone while fighting Dustin Poirier, he made wild claims.
On Sunday night, the Irish MMA star climbed into the Octagon as part of UFC 264 against Poirier. But already in the first round McGregor had to give up. The UFC star had broken a bone in his left leg and has since been operated on on his tibia and fibula.
Now the Irishman posted a video in which he revealed explosive details about his injury. And that could also have an impact on his promoter.
Sitting in an electric wheelchair, McGregor showed his left ankle in thick plaster, after claiming that he was bruised before the fight. “I've already gone into the fight injured. People ask me: When did the leg break? Asks Dana White, asks the UFC, asks the chief physician, Dr. Davidson. You know,”
“I already had stress fractures when I went into battle,” continued the 33-year-old. That's why there were “discussions about canceling the thing,” explained the Irishman, who later posted training photos showing his ankle wrapped in thick bandages.
McGregor's revelations, if true, could have repercussions for the UFC. Because the athletics commission of the US state Nevada was responsible for the handling of the event. According to US media reports, the UFC was obliged to disclose the state of health of all fighters in detail. In any case, voices are mounting that the UFC could have taken a conscious risk in order not to have to cancel the fight evening with 1.8 million pay-per-view viewers.
It is now being investigated whether the UFC has violated its duty. Should this be proven, the organizers would be liable. The UFC has not yet commented.
