By September of this year, 90% of new incidents of COVID-19 infections in the European Union will be caused by the delta strain of coronavirus. This information is provided in a statement by the press service of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Employees of the organization are confident that the “delta” will actively spread throughout the summer – especially among young people who are not yet vaccinated in the European Union.

According to the head of the ECDC Andrea Ammon, “delta” is indeed more infectious than other strains circulating in the world. It is also more dangerous than other types of virus and is more likely to lead to hospitalization.

Delta Plus: COVID mutated again

ECDC experts predict that by early August 70% of new coronavirus incidents in the EU will be caused by the “delta”. An increase in the number of infections will happen if tough preventive measures against COVID-19 are weakened in the summer, experts say.

Let's remind, “delta” was first discovered in India. According to doctors, it is 40-60% more infectious than the “British” strain.

Infected with “delta” develop symptoms atypical for coronavirus. So, patients suffer from pains in the head, runny nose, “sore throat”, diarrhea. Another feature is that in such patients, the body temperature can remain normal, as is typical for ARVI.
