One of the characteristic signs of the disease with the Indian strain of the coronavirus “delta” is an upset of the gastrointestinal tract. TASS was informed about this by a pulmonologist at the Moscow Regional Research Clinical Institute named after V.I. M.F. Vladimirsky Alexey Nikishenkov.

“Recently, after the delta strain began to spread, coronavirus patients are increasingly complaining of gastrointestinal upset – diarrhea, abdominal pain,” he said.

According to Nikishenkov, the disorder manifests itself along with coughing, weakness and muscle pain.

The emergence of “gastric COVID” was confirmed in a conversation with the agency and immunologist Vladimir Bolibok. “The delta strain is characterized by the so-called“ gastric syndrome ”. Abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea are often added to the already known symptoms, ”he said.

At the same time, virologist Viktor Larichev noted that the symptoms that manifested themselves in patients infected with the original “Wuhan” strain remained relevant for the Indian one. “With all infectious diseases, the temperature rises first of all – this is how it was and remains,” he said.

The delta strain was first discovered last October in India. This strain is twice as infectious as the Wuhan strain, the World Health Organization said. According to her, this variant was found in more than 90 countries. According to preliminary data, it can lead to a more severe course of COVID-19, said WHO expert Maria van Kerkhove.

The characteristic signs of the Indian strain of COVID-19 are hearing loss, joint pain, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea, as well as loss of appetite, said Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor. In addition, the diseased have microthrombosis of the lower extremities, which can lead to the development of gangrene. Cough, loss of smell and fever are less common, the expert added.

At the same time, scientists from King's College London said that with the Indian strain, the symptoms changed in those infected and they began to complain more often of headaches, runny nose and sore throat. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova spoke about the same signs. “The very simple symptoms of the disease are a runny nose, a sore throat, like with pharyngitis, and a headache. And that's all. According to our usual situation, people use ordinary antiviral agents, and sometimes antibiotics, they take them, because the symptoms are similar to those of a cold, ”she said.
