Experts assessed the risk of importing Marburg fever into Russia
The risk of a disease caused by the Marburg virus entering Russia is extremely low, TASS reports, citing specialists from the Microbe anti-plague institute.
Recall that the first case of Marburg hemorrhagic fever, also known as “green monkey disease”, was recorded the day before in Guinea. The causative agent of this disease belongs to the same class as the virus that causes Ebola.
According to representatives of the institute, the risk of the spread of Marburg fever at the world level, as well as the risk of its importation into the territory of the Russian Federation, remains extremely low.
Scientists also emphasize that no cases of the disease have been registered in Russia.
The Marburg virus is believed to be transmitted to humans from bats. The disease manifests itself suddenly with a high fever and severe headache. Within a week, those infected develop signs of hemorrhagic fever. The lethality of the disease ranges from 24 to 88%. At the same time, there is no vaccine or medicine against it yet.
Earlier it was reported that in Serbia, two people died after contracting West Nile fever.
