Experts announced the development of stroke in children after COVID – Izvestia
An international expert review, published in the medical journal The Lancet, showed that children who have had coronavirus may have brain, nervous tissue and spinal lesions, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
Including, according to scientists, we are talking about a stroke. Recall that its common causes are thrombosis and internal bleeding in the brain.
In a number of cases, researchers have recorded the tension of the spinal nerve roots. Also, in younger patients, spinal cord inflammation was detected, which in rare cases caused paralysis.
It is emphasized that out of 38 examined minors, four children died from pathologies of the central nervous system caused by coronavirus infection. In addition, four patients developed thromboischemic disease and one developed a stroke with multiple cerebral hemorrhages.
Oksana Zagilova, a neurologist, told the publication that a number of sick minors may have disturbances in the functioning of the nervous system in the form of seizures, varying degrees of depression of consciousness and encephalitis.
“Such disorders appear when the immune system begins to attack the nerve cells of its own body,” she explained.
Recall that in the United States, a child suffered a stroke due to the postponed coronavirus. Earlier it was reported that over 33% of patients who underwent coronavirus infection in the next six months faced neurological or psychiatric disorders.
