The temporary loss of memory by the Permian shooter may be associated with serious problems in the functioning of the brain, however, in order to establish them, a serious medical examination is required. The head of the Doverie rehabilitation center, neurologist Alexander Komarov told about this to Rambler.
“In its acute form, it can be serious injuries or poisoning, including illegal drugs. The second condition in which the brain can fall into such a state is transient global amnesia, which is accompanied by impaired blood supply in the deep parts of the brain, primarily in the hippocampus. . The third moment is an episyndrome, when a person makes automatisms, that is, purposeful, similar to arbitrary actions, but does not remember them. “
Komarov noted that some forms of the disorders described by him may be weakly manifested in ordinary life, and their diagnosis requires serious medical examinations, analyzing all available information about the patient's behavior, first of all, what happened to him before the incident.
“These episodes occur sporadically, and in ordinary life they may not always appear. The specifics of this episode of memory loss, which we are talking about, should be investigated by a special commission. And then we will understand whether these actions are intentional or not.”
At the same time, the expert noted that with an episyndrome, the patient is usually only capable of routine actions, such as going to the store or going to work, so this diagnosis is hardly applicable to what happened in Perm. Also, one of the symptoms indicating a possible exacerbation of a mental disorder may be a motor impairment, usually accompanying acute forms of such diseases.
“Automatisms or transient global amnesia are characterized by limited, defective motor skills. That is, the patient here can, relatively speaking, go home, go to the sports section, go to work, to the bank. Going with a gun to the place of study is not a routine action, so here many questions”
Timur Bekmansurov, who organized an armed attack on Perm State University on September 20, came to his senses. The shooter states that he does not remember anything about the circumstances of the incident.
During the attack on the PGU, 6 people were killed, another 47 were injured. Bekmansurov was stopped by the actions of a traffic police officer who wounded him during the shootout.
After several bullet wounds, Bekmansurov fell into a coma. Doctors had to amputate one of his legs, and the student's kidneys also failed.
