NOVOSIBIRSK, October 7. / TASS /. Having become dominant in the world, the delta coronavirus strain may remain in the population, having ceased to evolve, since it is more difficult for a more adapted version of the virus to develop further, a leading researcher at the US National Center for Biotechnology Information, a member of the national academies of the USA, Russia, told reporters at the OpenBio press center. , Europe Evgeny Kunin.
“The fact that this is some kind of island of resistance, there is no doubt, it [the delta strain] has been dominating for some time. It is possible to imagine such a situation, if you imagine a mountainous landscape that reflects the pathogenicity of viruses, you can imagine that it has crawled to a certain plateau, and in order to climb further, you need to cross the valleys, which may not happen at all, “said Kunin.
According to him, the more the virus is adapted to the prevailing conditions, the more difficult it is for it to evolve. This process is complicated by vaccination, which is actively spreading in the world. In this case, the attention of scientists is attracted by a variant of the virus that breaks through the immune defense. Scientists are studying this issue using computer modeling.
The OpenBio open communications platform operates in the Koltsovo science city near Novosibirsk on October 5-8 in a mixed format. The Forum dedicated to Virology and Biotechnology has been held annually since 2013. The OpenBio program includes a scientific conference, a business forum, educational platforms for children, an exhibition of companies in the field of biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals. TASS is the general information partner of the forum.
