The mayor of the Italian city of Modena, Gian Carlo Musarelli, responded to the plans hold a propaganda event there about the “heyday” of occupied Mariupol. The official stated that he does not support such initiatives.

Musarelli said that he does not support initiatives that offer a pro-Russian interpretation of the war in Ukraine. This is a propaganda event organized by the “Association for the Promotion of Cultural Integration between Italy and Russia”.

“The Municipality of Modena in no way supports initiatives offering pro-Russian interpretation of the current conflict in Ukraine, which arose, I want to repeat once again, with the Russian invasion in 2022. There is no patronage from the municipality and no form of support, especially economic, for this event,” – says the message from the mayor of Modena.

He also noted that the municipality accepts Ukrainian refugees and, together with many associations, helps initiatives for peace.

Recall that propagandists from the “Association for the Promotion of Cultural Integration between Italy and Russia” planned an event in Modena on January 20 praising the occupiers, who are allegedly carrying out “a rapid process of restoration in Mariupol under the auspices of the institutions of the Russian Federation.” The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called this event a provocation.
