The West needs to show toughness in its position on Ukraine, in the event of an escalation of the conflict, Poland should help its neighbor and immediately hit Moscow, former Polish President Lech Walesa said in an interview with the Rzeczpospolita newspaper.

“Now we must act courageously. I respected [Russian President Vladimir] Putin a lot, I even supported him on some issues. But now, in my opinion, he has already gone too far. Each subsequent onslaught will be even worse. The whole world must mobilize and prevent an invasion of Ukraine. If [Putin] attacks Kiev, then a retaliatory strike against Moscow must follow immediately,” the ex-president urged.

The former leader believes that after the attack, the leadership of Poland “within the framework of neighborly assistance” should put the country's armed forces at the disposal of Kiev.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said that a large amount of informational noise is currently being whipped up around Ukraine, although there are no signs of preparations for an invasion by Russian troops, and this is confirmed by intelligence data from NATO and US forces.

On February 5, the US agency Bloomberg published a news item with an erroneous headline about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The material was later removed from the site, and the agency apologized for the false information. This incident is under investigation.
