Former Russian national team player and coach of Yaroslavl “Shinnik” Vadim Yevseev responded by criticizing the players for the rest in expensive resorts, State Duma deputy and Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova. He posted a post on his Instagram page.

Evseev posted a photo from the court. “There were questions about the players' rest in the Maldives, so we flew here as tennis players,” he signed the post.

On December 26, Zhurova admitted that she was outraged by the fact that many Russian football players were resting at foreign resorts during the winter break. She noted that players can afford a vacation in the Maldives, as they receive more than other athletes from among their compatriots. The deputy recalled that, being an athlete and world champion in speed skating, she only once rested at sea.

In October, four-time Olympic champion Alexander Tikhonov proposed punishment for Russian football players who fail in European competition. According to the eminent athlete, players need to be deprived of their passports so that they do not disgrace themselves in the international arena, as well as forced to enter the field in shorts and barefoot.
