In Russia, every teacher will receive a tablet by 2023, Maksut Shadayev, Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, said at the Time of Education forum. Through the tablet, teachers will have access to an electronic journal, lesson plans and other information. The gadget will become the main means of work for the teacher, the official said.

“For us, the center of digitalization is the teacher. The teacher should be given the opportunity to use it all. Separately, we agreed to include a task in the digital economy program so that every teacher will receive a tablet by 2023, which will become their access to the world of modern digital opportunities. There will also be an electronic journal, a lesson plan, the ability to display educational materials on the blackboard, ”said Shadayev (quoted by TASS). The official did not specify which operating system the tablets will run on – domestic or foreign.

Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Industry prepared a proposal, within the framework of which it was planned to supply more than 700,000 domestic tablets based on the Aurora operating system to hospitals and schools by 2024. Then it was reported that the development of “Aurora” will require at least 19.4 billion rubles.

Plans to issue tablets to teachers were also discussed in 2020. Then it was reported that from 2021, tablets on the OS “Aurora” will receive almost 800,000 teachers.

Earlier in Russia, they repeatedly tried to provide schoolchildren with gadgets. Back in 2011, Rusnano presented the electronic textbook Plastic Logic 100 (PL100). Reader had to replace paper books without distracting children from their studies. Then production was limited to a test run – due to the high cost of the gadget, distributing PL100 to all 15 million Russian schoolchildren would have required 180 billion rubles.

In 2017, schoolchildren in the Sverdlovsk region were given tablets produced by the National Center for Electronic Education (NCEO) controlled by Rostec. Then it was planned that more than 10,000 schoolchildren should receive the tablet. A school teacher told reporters that “such devices will be useful when they are three times faster than now.”

In the summer of 2019, Boris Chernyshov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Education Committee, proposed developing “shkulphones” that could become an alternative to smartphones for schoolchildren.
