The winner of the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, the leader of the far right ” Freedom Party” (PVV) Geert Wilders, who is called the European Trump, will not be able to lead the government.
This was reported by NOS with reference to a statement by the politician on the social network X.
Geert Wilders reported that he did not have enough support among other political forces.
“I can only become prime minister if ALL parties in the coalition support it. This did not happen. I would like a right-wing office. Less asylum and immigration. The Netherlands comes first. Love for the country and voters is greater and more important than my own position,” he wrote.
Now four parties intend to create a so-called extra-parliamentary government. It has a weaker connection to the House of Representatives than the regular Cabinet and does not have a detailed coalition agreement.
Details about the formation of the government of the Netherlands are expected on the evening of March 14.
Earlier, the New Social Contract party announced its withdrawal from coalition negotiations due to “irreconcilable differences” in views with Wilders’ political force. The party of the current head of government Mark Rutte also did not find a common language with the leader of the far right.
Political observers believe that Geert Wilders, as the leader of the faction in the House of Representatives, can continue to fulfill his free role, unencumbered by the functions of the head of government.
Recall that in November 2023, the Freedom Party, led by far-right politician Geert Wilders, won the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands. Before the full-scale invasion, Wilders did not hide his admiration for Putin and stated that the Netherlands should get rid of “Russophobia.” After winning the election, he said that the Netherlands was “Europe's fool” because it accepted too many Ukrainian refugees.
