Alexander Lukashenko
The European Parliament supported the introduction of sanctions against the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. This is stated in the resolution on his website.
“We fully support the EU sanctions against those responsible for the falsification of election results and repression in Belarus. Including Alexander Lukashenko, ”reads the document of the alliance's legislative body. The final decision will be made by the Council of the European Union.
Earlier it was reported that sanctions could be introduced on September 22 against 40 or even 50 people from Belarus. The list will include representatives of the election commission, the ministries of the interior, justice and others. At the same time, sources said that Lukashenka would not be included in the sanctions list, since Germany wants to conduct a dialogue with him for some time.
After the presidential elections in Belarus, in which, according to the CEC, Lukashenko won 80 percent of the vote, mass protests began. Demonstrators demand the resignation of the president of the country and the holding of fair elections; clashes with the security forces occurred, during which dozens of people were injured.
