by alex

Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki proposed to introduce new sanctions against Russia due to alleged espionage. This is reported by RT with reference to an appeal to the European Commission.

The parliamentarian asked whether the European Commission is aware of the expulsion from the country of Russian diplomats accused of “espionage”. “Is the European Commission considering the possibility of expanding the circle of affected persons and increasing sanctions against Russia? Is she considering the possibility of extending the sanctions? ”Asked the parliamentarian.

Dzhambazki also recalled that in December last year, a military, air and naval attaché at the Russian embassy in Sofia was expelled from Bulgaria, accused of “collecting military information.”

In September last year, Bulgaria expelled two Russian diplomats accused of espionage. As reported by the Russian embassy in Sofia, the Bulgarian side did not provide any evidence that could confirm such accusations.

The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office has opened pre-trial investigations against two Russian diplomats in the espionage case on January 24, 2020. Then it was established that from 2017 to the present, one of them was engaged in espionage activities, collecting information about the electoral process in Bulgaria. Moscow denied the allegations and promised to retaliate.
