At the meeting, European leaders plan to discuss maintaining Ukraine's combat readiness.
French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are convening a new meeting of the “coalition of the willing.” The summit will take place via videoconference on July 10.
This was reported by BMF TV with reference to the administration of the French president.
Starmer and Macron will jointly chair the meeting via videoconference from Northwood Air Force Base near London.
The summit will be joined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni, who will meet in Rome for a conference on Ukraine's reconstruction, as well as officials in other European capitals.
“There will definitely be a discussion on how to seriously support Ukraine's combat readiness,” the Elysee Palace said.
The aim is also to ensure the “rebirth of the Ukrainian army” and to deploy support forces as part of a ceasefire “when the time comes.”
The day before, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for increased military support for Ukraine.
“While there remain doubts about continued US support for Europe, it is even more important to strengthen our cooperation and coordination within the EU and NATO, as well as in our direct relations,” she said.
The publication notes that European diplomacy will try to achieve more convincing results than Donald Trump, who admitted that during his last telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin this Thursday he “made no progress.”
What is a “coalition of the willing”
The “Coalition of the Willing” is a bloc of countries that have promised to support Ukraine in its war with Russia.
The initiative was presented on March 2, 2025, following a summit of 18 world leaders in London. The main goal of the new alliance is to consolidate European efforts against the backdrop of political instability in the United States, as well as to form a solid foundation for a future peaceful settlement of the conflict.
The activities of the “coalition of the willing” have recently been suspended due to the lack of clear security guarantees from the United States.
Let us recall that back in May of this year, former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated that the European initiative on Ukraine was unfolding too slowly
