High temperatures in European countries will continue until the end of next week.

A heat warning has been issued for southern Europe. Temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius this weekend in the Mediterranean region, from the Iberian Peninsula to the Balkans. The heatwave is expected to continue until the end of next week.

In Portugal, the national weather agency IPMA said a heatwave would begin today, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in the south and centre of the country and in the Douro valleys in the north.
