European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton assessed the need for the European Union in the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V. His words on the air of the TF1 TV channel are reported by RIA Novosti.

“Since we are the continent with the most approved by the medical regulator of vaccines – four, and we are in the field of their production, we will absolutely not need Sputnik V,” said Breton, stressing that this also applies to other drugs.

According to the European Commissioner, it is necessary that the vaccines approved in the EU are produced and applied in large quantities. “With regard to Sputnik V: the Russians have problems with production, and if they need help, we will talk about it in the second half of the year,” he added, noting that priority is given to those drugs that are produced in European territory.

Sputnik V is the first registered Russian coronavirus vaccine based on adenovirus. The drug is registered in more than 50 countries. Currently, the development of Russian scientists is among the ten best vaccine candidates in the list of the World Health Organization.
