Europe fears Trump will leave Ukraine on the sidelines during “peace talks” with Russia — El Pais

Such a scenario would be a security disaster for Europe, not to mention a major geopolitical defeat.

Debate is intensifying in Brussels over whether peacekeeping troops should be deployed to ensure Russia's compliance with a future agreement with Ukraine. There are also growing concerns in the EU about the agreement to end the war.

El Pais writes about this.

The US will develop an agreement to end the war in Ukraine that will be disadvantageous for Kiev and in which EU countries will only be used for post-war financing and as a guarantor, the EU believes.

“The EU could ensure its participation within the framework of the security guarantees of the future agreement, for example, due to the deployment of troops on the ground. However, as diplomatic sources and analysts emphasize, it will be very difficult to implement this scheme if the US does not take an active part,” writes El Pais

Unfortunately, the EU has little leverage to ensure an important role in cooperation with USA.

Referring to an anonymous source, the publication adds that such a scenario would be a disaster for Europe's security, not to mention a major geopolitical defeat.

“It is extremely important that Europeans take part in developing the future formula,” El Pais says.

Recall that earlier it was said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would put forward unrealistic demands for a peace agreement that would be impossible to fulfill even with the participation of US President Donald Trump.
