With the escalation of the situation around Ukraine, the European Union will introduce sanctions against Russia, they are already ready. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

Von der Leyen added that the EU countries are united and act in coordination with the US and NATO.

“We are in favor of good relations with Russia, but it depends on its actions. Russia must stop provocations, ”she said.

The head of the European Commission also believes that the sanctions “with major consequences” can force Moscow to respect the European Union on the issue of the situation around Ukraine, given that the Russian side wants to conduct a dialogue with the United States.

On December 17, the leaders of 27 countries of the European Union unanimously decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia. The head of the EU Council Charles Michel said that the Kremlin will face serious consequences if Moscow “takes further military action against Ukraine.” In addition, the EU called on the Russian side to start implementing the Minsk agreements.
