Vienna / Nyon – The European Football Union (UEFA) has revised its prize money for the upcoming European Championship downwards. The total budget of the tournament from June 11th to July 11th, which has been postponed by one year due to Corona, is not as originally planned 371 million euros, but 331 million euros. The APA – Austria Press Agency – confirmed the relevant decision of its Executive Committee at the end of April. The new sum is still a record in EM history.
The entry bonus, which the ÖFB as one of 24 participating associations also receives, remains the same at 9.25 million euros. The guaranteed amount at the 2016 European Championship in France was 8 million euros. All other bonuses were downgraded to those of the tournament from five years ago in the corona pandemic. For a victory in the group stage, contrary to the original plan for EURO 2020, there is 1 instead of 1.5 million euros. For a draw, each team receives 0.5 instead of 0.75 million euros.
The promotion bonuses for 2021 also fell slightly to the values for France in 2016. For the round of 16 entry now 1.5 instead of 2 million euros are waiting, for the quarter-finals 2.5 instead of 3.25 million. The semi-final entry will be sweetened for the associations with 4 instead of the original 5 million. For the final winner there is 8 instead of 10 million euros extra, for the loser 5 instead of 7.
